I have been blessed to be the Director of Faith Formation at St. Charles Borromeo since August 2022. I take great joy in this ministry of sharing faith with children, youth and adults through helping to enable catechists; teaching and writing; curriculum development; leveraging social media; RCIA; and, Sacramental preparation for Baptism, First Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation. For me, it is a special gift to be able to walk the journey of faith with people at all stages of spiritual growth, and especially to be present as they discover that Christ’s presence has always been there for them.
Raised in Alaska as the youngest of seven children in a faith-filled home, I earned degrees in Religion and Journalism before becoming an elementary teacher in a Christian school. My path to St. Charles Borromeo would include many years in the field of law as well as consistent volunteering in church ministries through teaching, music, committees and retreat speaking. God has blessed me with the ability of endurance running, which provided me with opportunities to run solo and self-supported across the United States, Germany, Alaska and the Mojave Desert while in my 40’s -- as well as carrying the Olympic Torch in 2002. He also opened doors for me to share my passion for faith, family and fitness with audiences of all ages in the United States, Caribbean and Europe. I began attending St. Charles in September 2015 after having met a lovely parishioner named Kelley. We were married in 2018. It is a gift to be the parent of seven adults and a high school teen – and a grandparent of four. My conversion to the Catholic faith was a journey filled with daily blessings and in so many ways that journey truly brought me home.
The 1924 Olympic Champion and Missionary, Eric Liddell, said: "Circumstances may appear to wreck our lives and God's plans, but God is not helpless among the ruins. God's love is still working. He comes in and takes the calamity and uses it victoriously, working out His wonderful plan of love." I've seen this occur in my own life and it brings to the surface of my heart the words of Jeremiah 29:11 – “’For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’”
