Knights of Columbus Council 718, Peru, Indiana Scholarship established in 2013, to be an annual project.
Scholarships are to be presented to eligible dependents of Knights of Columbus members of at least one (1) year membership and in good standing.
To qualify for this scholarship, a student must be a legal dependent of a Knights of Columbus member in good standing. A member in good standing is a member with a) all dues current, b) one full-year membership, and c) has participated in at least one club activity in the year, in which the applicant is making their request.
The applicant must qualify in general by showing good citizenship, acceptable scholastic school records, an interest in school and community activities.
The applicant must be enrolled in a minimum 2-year accredited college or university, either as a part-time (6 semester hours) or full-time (12 semester hours) student.
The Knights of Columbus shall award three (3) scholarships, up to $700. each to qualified applicants. Applicants may apply once a year, for a total of four (4) years; however, priority will be given to first-time applicants. Applicants must apply within one year of graduation from an accredited high school.
The scholarship award will be paid to the recipient or directly to the college or university, if that institution has a matching scholarship fund.
Scholarships will be awarded to the three (3) applicants most deserving of this award as determied by the Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee will be made up of three (3) Knights of Columbus members.
A scholarship certificate will be presented to each of the recipients of this scholarship. It is the responsibility of the applicant to present this certificate to his/her high school guidance counselor for announcement of this award at his/her graduation ceremonies.
Two (2) letters of reference by either teachers, educators, employers, or neighbors must accompany the application stating why the applicant deserves this scholarship.
The completed application must be submitted to the St. Charles Borromeo parish office no later than April 15.
